Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke will not be back for Terminator sequels

Despite its poor critical reception (and worse title), Terminator: Genisys made $440 million at the global box office. That was enough to fuel speculation that there might be a sequel in the works, but if that ever comes to fruition Emilia Clarke - who played Sarah Connor in Genisys - will not be a part of it.

While talking to Coming Soon about her upcoming film Me Before You, the Game of Thrones actress confirmed she wouldn't be returning to the Terminator franchise in definitive fashion; “No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

The actress also took the time to share an amusing anecdote from her time on the Terminator: Genisys set; “I read the book [Me Before You] and it was just the most beautiful thing I had ever read. I was shooting ‘Terminator’ at the time and had a rocket launcher in my hand while crying like a little girl. I felt like the author, Jojo Moyes, had found a part of me and just wrote it down. I knew that I just had to play the role.”

I'm generally a fan of Clarke's work, but her performance in Genisys did nothing for me and she wasn't helped by the terrible script. She has proven herself to be a versatile actress, and I'd rather see her try out some different projects than return to play Sarah Connor. If Paramount does have a Terminator sequel in the works they need to move on it quickly; the rights revert back to James Cameron at the end of the decade.
