Hope you like Star Wars games, because EA has released more information regarding its upcoming Star Wars projects via an earnings call this afternoon. Specifically, EA has announced that a new Star Wars Battlefront will launch some time next year with content based on the new movies, while the Visceral-developed Star Wars game will be released some time in 2018.
This new info comes in addition to a press release from earlier this morning, which revealed that last year's revival of Star Wars Battlefront has sold over 14 million copies across all platforms during the 2016 fiscal year.
The announcement of these new Star Wars games arrives a week after EA revealed that it's partnering up once again with Respawn Entertainment (the studio behind the upcoming Titanfall 2, newly announced for a late 2016 release) to produce a third-person action game set in the Star Wars universe, headed up by Stig Asmussen, former creative lead on God of War 3.
The Visceral-developed Star Wars game was the first project announced by the partnership between EA and Disney after EA won the bid for the Star Wars license back in 2014. That project is currently being helmed by Amy Hennig (creative director of Uncharted 1-3), and is being developed by the studio behind the Dead Space series.
As is common with earnings calls, no additional details were revealed about any of these upcoming Star Wars projects. But it goes without saying that Star Wars has done very well for EA so far, and so we're going to be getting a whole lot more in the near future.
