Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location, July 22 - 24. Dragon's Breath!

Xur, Destiny’s travelling weekend trader, medieval re-enactment propmaster, and owner of a small chain of privately funded, independent theatres, focusing on left-field, experimental productions from new writers, is back. This week he’s over in the Tower, just next to the hangar. What’s he selling though? Why, these things. These things indeed.

So what’s goo… wait a minute. I’m not going to get straight into my usual, item-by-item rundown just yet. Because I’ve noticed something slightly amiss about this week’s like-up. It’s 50% exactly the same as Xur’s ‘random’ offerings a month ago. What’s going on, Bungie? Are Destiny’s Exotics actually coded together individually, one by one? Did you make too many Impossible and Radiant Dance Machines one day? Do you now have a warehouse-full that you’re desperate to get rid of? Bah. Whatever the reason, the chances are that if you were in the market for this week’s Hunter and Warlock gear, you bought it a month ago. But if you missed them and still want to check them out, have a looky at the post a wrote about them right here.

As for Titans, No Backup Plans are actually pretty good, if you’re into close-range tanking. They trigger Force Barrier on shotgun kills, while also extending the barrier’s duration, and speeding up your melee attack, frankly making you a bit of a monster in the up-close-and-personal department. Particularly if you combine it with the Relentless and War Machine perks in the Defender skill tree.

As for this week’s final item though, thankfully it is a mighty good one. Vastly upgraded from its Year One variant, Dragon’s Breath will convert its rockets into plummeting napalm canisters if you let go of the trigger before impact, letting you absolutely paste large mobs from a distance and deliver ongoing, area-of-effect damage to larger targets. Also, if you’re feeling Chaotic Evil, you can always take it into the Crucible, fire it straight up, trigger the napalm rain, and then just see what happens.

As ever, Xur is around until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, at which point he’ll go, er, somewhere, for another week. Probably off to torch that warehouse, realistically.
