Fans petition to keep Nosgoth alive

Square are set to shut down the Nosgoth servers on 31 May but fans want to keep it alive.

Last week Square announced that they would be pulling the plug on Psyonix’ Legacy of Cain free to play online title Nosgoth stating that the “audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations.” This meant that the game, which has been in beta testing for nearly two and a half years, will not get a full release.

Fans who want to keep the game alive have now launched a petition requesting that Square keep it alive in some form. They request that “development options are opened up”, and private servers are at least an option to keep it running. The petition then goes on to say :

“Despite these demands being made the Nosgoth community are not hostile to SE or Psyonix, although disappointed with the decision making on show. It is not the time here to criticise the video games industry. It was argued that keeping the game live would be impossible without constant development; your player base has people who are willing to perform that development purely from love. Money, labour or promotion are all things that the community are happy to give. Don’t squander the good work of so many people and dash good intentions.”

It’s unlikely that Square will change their minds but the fans obviously want something to happen and stop Nosgoth closing down entirely.
