Obsidian CEO confirms Pillars of Eternity 2, unannounced Cain/Boyarsky title

Feargus Urquhart has confirmed that Obsidian are currently working on Pillars of Eternity 2, in addition to an unannounced Tim Cain/Leonard Boyarsky title.

This news comes from an interview GamePressure conducted at Digital Dragons 2016 in Krakow (thanks to AshPark26 for pointing us to the related RPG Codex thread).

Eternity 2 is not announced,” Urquhart told GamePressure, “It seems silly for me not to acknowledge it, though. If someone asks ‘Are you working on it?’, I respond ‘Well, wouldn’t you work on it?’. So then they say ‘So you must be working on it,’ and then I’m like ‘Well, yeah.'”

Which is a very roundabout way of saying that, even if it’s not announced, it’s something the company has begun.

He also noted that Eternity 2 will likely be making use of crowdfunding once more. “That is probably something that we want to look at [in terms of crowdfunding]. I think people felt like we delivered on our promise, and then that felt like we could go with Eternity 2 and people would support us again, because they trust us.” No word on whether that’ll be Kickstarter again, or if Obsidian will take a look at other crowdfunding solutions like Fig.

In case you wanted further confirmation, that quote was preceded by “Obviously, as you’ve probably guessed, we’re starting to move forward on Eternity 2.”

But wait! There’s more! As if Pillars of Eternity 2 wasn’t quite enough, Urquhart mentioned that – and here I’ll quote the GamePressure article directly – “there’s a small group of people within the studio that’s working on something completely new”, and that “the names of Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky came up while talking about this.” Apparently, he also hinted that this might have something to do with the Unreal Engine. Hmm.

So, no official announcement yet, but Obsidian’s CEO has basically just admitted that they’re working on Pillars of Eternity 2. Considering the RPG giant is also working on Tyranny and Armored Warfare, it seems like they don’t fancy resting on their laurels just yet.
