No Man's Sky players left frustrated after meeting in-game and can't see each other

If anyone was under the impression there were multiplayer elements in No Man’s Sky they could be forgiven based on past statements from Hello Game’s Sean Murray. Despite being sold as a single player game, players were confused about what expect.

Sean Murray had stated it would practically be impossible for two players to meet, but within 12 hours of the game’s release, two players managed to reach the same spot at the same time and streamed it live.

Expecting to see each other based on comments made by Hello Games in previous interviews, they tried in vain to make it happen. There simply appears to be no way to meet or interact with other players. Shocking?

Shocking? No not really. It’s being sold as a single player game. The fact you can pause the game is a huge indication that there would be no chance of a meeting taking place.

So why all the confusion? The simple answer has to be hype. In numerous interviews with Sean Murray over the past few years, he has always said “yes” to most things when asked about crossing paths with other players or seeing other players. Perhaps he realised yesterday that this may cause a problem now the game is released. He posted a tweet which simply read “To be super clear – No Man’s Sky is not a multiplayer game. Please don’t go in looking for that experience.”

Hype is the biggest problem for No Man’s Sky, the anticipation has been high due to Hello Games keeping much of the game under wraps for so long.

Now some players are calling Murray a liar based on his previous comments in interviews which have also been compiled into a video below. Players who avoided the hype are less likely to feel short-changed as the game is being sold as single player.

Since the game launched the servers have been heavily taxed so perhaps this is why players have not been able to see each other, although that would seem unlikely.

Hello Games has so far not commented on what these two players should have experienced or if they should have experienced anything at all. No doubt they will say something about this in the next 24 hours with any luck.

With the game coming out on PC this Friday, do not expect multiplayer interaction in any form apart from planet naming. The Steam page says “single player” for as reason.
