There appears to be something fishy going on with No Man’s Sky as players are reporting discoveries being wiped.
With many of No Man’s Sky’s touted features not actually making it into the game, some players have still been enjoying the experience of discovering new life and planets. Naming things in the universe gives players some sense of ownership.
In the past few hours, some players have discovered that when heading back to a system where they have named things, the names have mysteriously all vanished. As with everything related to this game nobody knows if this is intended, but it’s got players worried.
One player managed to make it back to his starting planet to find all the discoveries on the planet were wiped, and now reports are coming in from other players finding the same problem.
The general consensus is that as more and more data is being stored, older discoveries are being wiped as players progress. Planet and system names appear to be safe, but plants and animals appear to be reset.
The community is now wondering whether it’s worth naming anything or if this is some kind of error on the servers or connectivity issues when uploading.
Is this intentional and part of the game’s design? Nobody seems to know, and based on the lack of communication from Hello Games regarding missing features, we might never know.
